The Beyond Milagro House Apartments
Education. Housing. Supportive Programming.
Our holistic approach provides each woman we serve with the essential elements and building blocks needed to move from poverty to self-sufficiency, creating a brighter future for themselves and their children.
The Challenge:
Lancaster’s Affordable Housing Crisis
Women graduating from the Milagro House core program achieve tremendous milestones, including securing employment and completing their education. Yet, a significant barrier threatens to stall their progress: finding affordable housing in Lancaster County.
In Lancaster, and nationally, 60% of families living in poverty are headed by single women with children. For households making less than 50% of the median income, there is an estimated shortage of 18,500 affordable housing options locally.
This crisis has a direct ripple effect on our mission:
-
Delayed Independence: It currently takes our graduates an average of 3 to 4 months to find suitable, affordable housing after completing our educational programs.
-
A Growing Waiting List: Because our core housing remains occupied longer, women and children in our community are kept waiting for the opportunity to start their life-changing journey
. Today, our waiting list is at a staggering 52 women .
Our Solution:
The 141 College Avenue Project
To bridge this gap, Milagro House has acquired a four-unit apartment building at 141 College Avenue, just steps from our West Chestnut Street building .
By early Spring 2026, funding will allow us to completely renovate this property—upgrading bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, and lighting—to create four affordable, one-year transitional apartments. These units will be exclusively available to graduates participating in our Beyond Milagro House program
The Impact of Your Support
The Beyond Milagro House Apartments provide more than just a roof; they are a framework for a sustainable future. When you support this project, you help us:
Provide Transitional Stability:
Women and their children receive a safe, affordable apartment with rent based on their first-year budget.
Foster Financial Independence:
During their one-year lease, residents continue to receive Milagro House staff support as they build savings, establish credit, create a positive rental and work history, and prepare to secure permanent housing.
Expand Community Reach:
By reducing the time graduates spend in our core program housing, we can cut the time applicants spend on our waiting list by up to 54%, allowing us to serve more families, faster.
